No real surprises in Maths Paper 1
SUMMERHILL College students thought last Friday’s Maths Paper 1 wasn’t quite as tough as expected.
One by one they emerged from the exam hall, blinking like moles into the blazing white afternoon sunshine.
“It was easier than the mock,” said Dylan Davey.
“I was happy enough,” said Eamonn Keaveney who only dropped down from higher maths at the last minute.
“I think it went better than I thought so I’m happy enough. Going to try and get some study done for Paper 2 on Monday,” he told The Sligo Champion.
“I’m glad it’s over. There were no real surprises,” said Hugh Kisby.
“It wasn’t exactly easy but it wasn’t the worst test. There was a bit of calculus I didn’t get but apart from that it was grand,” he added.
“I thought it was OK. Some bits were a bit sticky,” said Kieran Prior who did the ordinary paper.
Roan Conneely thought it was alright but with a few tricky questions.
David Conway felt the higher paper was “tough enough” but said he felt he did “decently well” in it. “There wasn’t really anything out of the blue. The hardest part was all the questions on sequences and series on the paper which I didn’t expect. I thought there’d only be one or two but there was about three and a half.
“I think I passed and I’ ll be happy enough with my result,” he said.
Another honours candidate was Conal Stenson who thought the whole paper was tough. “I’ ll see how it goes,” he smiled.
Induction was the toughest part for Oisín Kevany. “I didn’t get induction, it was very tricky.
Is he good at maths? “I thought I was,” he laughed.
Junior Cert students were happy enough also: “Most of them were manageable. Some of the questions were confusing but it was grand,” said Ben Kelly.
“I was expecting a lot more functions to come up but I was prepared enough for it,” he said.
“It was easy enough. Overall I felt it was OK,” said Noah Canham. “It was a bit of everything you were expecting to come up really,” he added.
