Merville U13s win League final
MERVILLE and Arrow Harps met on a cool Friday night in Merville in front of a big crowd in an eventful under 13 league final.
The game started off slow with both teams keeping it tight at the back and feeling each other out but the game burst into life with when a free kick from Arrow Harps not far from the half way line came back off the post and fell safely into Merville’s keeper Stefan Roche’s hands.
The fright woke up Merville up and soon after they took the lead, good play down the right from Lee Conway and Ronan O’Hehir led to a free kick on the edge of the box.
Shea O’Neill stepped up and wiped a great free kick in with his left foot to the roof of the Arrow Harps goal to give Merville the lead.
At the start of the second half Merville took control of the game and doubled their lead early in the half, Lee Conway again doing well on the right when he went on a good run to the end line where he crossed to Gavin Lynch to fire home and cue wild celebrations from the home crowd.
Soon after Merville added a third when a dangerous corner kick was wiped in by Dylan Street and the ball was hooked back by Ronan Niland to Zack Gilligan on edge of the box and he fired in a terrific volley to the top corner and a brilliant goal.
With 15 minutes left Arrow got back in the game when Sam Touhy fired in a loose ball and the game was back on, with the two Kenny brothers Ciarán and Niall and Sam Touhy getting more of the ball, Arrow were creating chances and they nearly got back a second when a header from Tuohy bounced of the post.
Merville played out the game to the final whistle and captain Shea O’Neill collected the trophy for the winning team Merville, who are coached by Eddie McLoughlin and David Adams.
