Badminton stars are in Special Olympics
SLIGO has 7 badminton players on the Connaught team playing in the 2018 Special Olympics Ireland Games, which run from June 11417th in various Dublin venues.
The Sligo squad are all members of the Shuttle Star badminton Club and play their badminton in the Sligo Tennis Club.
The team, comprising Jennifer Mulligan, Peggy McDonnell, Heather Dunne, Joe Fallon, Gabrielle Field, John Martin and Jonathan Price has put a huge effort into its preparations, training each and every Monday night.
Additionally, all the players participated in 5 Connaught squad training days, held in Galway and Sligo over recent months.
Team Connaught hosted the Province’s Ireland Games launch on Friday 18th at the Athlone Institute of Technology, where the Sligo team was led out by long distance runner and European Bronze medallist Mary Cullen.
The Special Olympics motto “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt” was read out to thunderous applause and surely sets the tone for the Games.
The Shuttle Stars Club is very proud of its athletes, and knows they will do Sligo and the Club proud.
The club wishes to acknowledge the massive support the players get from coaches, volunteers, families and friends and the assistance provided by Sligo Tennis Club.
