SLIGO JAZZ FESTIVAL DATES
SLIGO Jazz Project has just announced the biggest festival line up of its 13-year history. With at least 37 performances, festival-goers will be spoiled at many venues around Sligo over six days from July 24-29 th. The range of styles is as wide as the range of acts, from solo artists to big bands, from western swing to free jazz. Venues like Hargadons, Tricky’s McGarrigles, Thomas Connollys, Andersons and the Riverside Hotel will be hosting free events while the only pay-in events are the Hawk’s Well Theatre main festival concerts. These events include a rare masterclass by Vulfpeck’s bass superstar Joe Dart, concerts by his “other” band the Olllam, Liane Carroll, SJP All Stars, SJP Big Band featuring Malcolm Edmonstone’s fabulous arrangement of Donald Fagen’s classic album The Nightfly, and composer-in-residence Brian Byrne’s Goldenhair, based on the poems of James Joyce and featuring special guest singers and instrumentalists.
Other acts performing the jazz trail in July include guitarist Shane Hennessy, Free Trane featuring UK saxophone ace Julian Siegel, singer Sue Rynhart. Scott Flanigan, Mike Walker, Bluesmen Ronnie Greer and Ken Haddock, The Murray Brothers, Weather Report tribute Plaza Real and Sligo’s own Sarah Crummy, Graeme Bourke, Sligo Concert Band and the Old Market Street Swing Band.
The festival club will take place again at the Riverside Hotel, where live bands and twice daily jam sessions are some of the highlights of this amazing week.
The programme will be launched on Thursday 28th June at a venue to be confirmed. It promises to be another mouth-watering line up of music.
