The Lily Lolly Yeats Festival caters for all ages with an interest in craft and design and we aim to create a wide a varied programme by linking with many organisations in Sligo.
The Lily Lolly journal-making workshop will form part of this year’s Primary Colours programme which is an exciting children’s arts education programme developed around the primary school visual arts curriculum. Primary Colours enriches the primary schools art curriculum through workshops, exhibitions and teacher packs. A remit of the programme is to assist children with opportunities to visit galleries and see contemporary art work, to be encouraged to not just look at art on the gallery wall but to question it and engage with it, and to be inspired by what they see. The Primary Colours benefits students and class teachers, who receive invaluable expertise from the artists by developing different ways of looking and thinking creatively together. WHAT are you doing for Yeats Day 2018? Why not arise and celebrate Sligo and Ireland’s great genius on the night of Yeats’ birthday, June 13th! Better still, why not dress up in the style of WB Yeats, James Joyce, Maud Gonne or even one of the Gatsbys and get along to the Glasshouse Hotel at 8 pm.
The IT Sligo Choir “The Wild Swans” and other groups are organising THE YEATS VINTAGE VARIETY SHOW. It’s an evening of entertainment, in the style enjoyed by WB, his friends and family in the early 20 th century. Dance, music, comedy, theatre and poetry – old style - will delight you . With help from Sligo Drama Circle and Sligo Youth Theatre, the show will feature a host of Sligo talent, plus a nibble of old fashioned food - all for €5. The evening will have more a party feel than a formal performance. ‘And the merry love to fiddle and the merry love to dance’ – as Yeats once said.
