NEWLY elected Mayor of Sligo Municipal District Fianna Fáil Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady has thrown down the gauntlet to Health Minister Simon Harris to fund the long-awaited Cardio Cath Lab and a new hospital ward for Sligo.

In her first speech as Mayor after she was elected unopposed at Monday’s AGM of Sligo Municipal District, Cllr O’Grady showed her determination to keep two local health issues high on the Government’s agenda.

“I call on Minister Simon Harris to provide Cardio Cath Lab services for Sligo,” she told members.

She also said Sligo University Hospital was currently scoping out for an extra medical ward for the coming winter.

“I call on the Minister to fund it. I firmly believe we are on the cusp of something special,” she said.

Fine Gael Councillor Sinead Maguire was then elected Deputy Mayor of Sligo Municipal District, proposed by Cllr Hubert Keaney and seconded by Cllr Seamus Kilgannonn.
