New electoral boundaries
A committee has recommended no change in the number of councillors Sligo will elect at next year’s Local Elections but wants to create three electoral areas instead of the current two.
The Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee is recommending a division of the county into three local electoral areas, comprising of Ballymote-Tobercurry with 7 seats, Sligo-Strandhill with 6 seats and Sligo-Drumcliff with 5 seats.
No change is recommended to the Municipal Districts. The Committee recommends that the Municipal Districts in Sligo are constituted as follows: Sligo Municipal Borough District – comprising Sligo –Drumcliff and Sligo –Strandhill local electoral areas.
The Ballymote-Tobercurry Municipal District is recommended to comprise the Ballymote-Tobercurry local electoral area
