New electoral boundaries

A committee has recommende­d no change in the number of councillor­s Sligo will elect at next year’s Local Elections but wants to create three electoral areas instead of the current two.

The Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee is recommendi­ng a division of the county into three local electoral areas, comprising of Ballymote-Tobercurry with 7 seats, Sligo-Strandhill with 6 seats and Sligo-Drumcliff with 5 seats.

No change is recommende­d to the Municipal Districts. The Committee recommends that the Municipal Districts in Sligo are constitute­d as follows: Sligo Municipal Borough District – comprising Sligo –Drumcliff and Sligo –Strandhill local electoral areas.

The Ballymote-Tobercurry Municipal District is recommende­d to comprise the Ballymote-Tobercurry local electoral area
