Gov urged to set up Retail Task Force
FIANNA Fáil County Councillor Tom MacSharry has called on the Government to establish a Retail Task Force to help hardhit towns like Sligo.
“There are a number of initiatives like rates holidays or percentage increase initiatives such as No Rates Year 1, 25 per cent Year 2, 50 per cent Year 3 etc that are proving hugely successful in other counties,” he told last week’s June County Council meeting.
“But in counties like Sligo where areas are simply decimated, an established Government Retail Task Force is essential in my mind to consider measure to assist new business start ups together with traditional business assistance to address the sharp decline in retails business in Sligo,” he told members.
He earlier welcomed the nearly new 400 jobs for Sligo created by Abtran and E3 .
“I want prospective business people to know that we as councillors are aware of how hard it is to do business and that we have your back as best we can in our role as councillors,” he said.
