Fined and banned

A driver with a previous conviction for driving without insurance was fined and banned for another offence when he appeared before Sligo District Court. Martin McHugh,

The Mullins, Donegal Town admitted a charge of not having insurance at O’Connell Street on February 7 th 2017.

He also pleaded to a drunk driving charge.

The reading was 240mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath. Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the certificat­e of insurance he had did not cover the vehicle he was driving.

The defendant had worked in the garage trade.

Noting that the reading was high, Judge Kilrane banned McHugh for three and a half years on the drunk driving charge and imposed a €200 fine.

McHugh was fined €100 on the insurance summons with a concurrent three and a half year ban.
