Overtook tractor and struck oncoming car

A driver from County Antrim overtook a tractor and slurry tank on a bend governed by a continuous white line at Drumcliffe and collided with an oncoming car.

John McBride (22), of Kingsland Cresent, Carrickfer­gus, admitted dangerous driving at Lisahelly, Drumcliffe on May 31st last.

Inspector Donal Sweeney told the court that after colliding with the oncoming car, McBride’s own car bounced back and struck the tractor he had overtaken.

McBride, who told the court he didn’t know the road, did not have any previous conviction­s.

He stated that he worked in Ballymena.

Judge Kilrane fined the defendant €100 and banned him from driving for two years.

At the same court, John Ward, 5 Crossroads, Cloonkeave­y, Ballymote was fined €300 for travelling at 128kph in a 100kph zone at Ballydrehi­d on November 21st 2017.

The defendant did not appear and was not represente­d.
