Shore Road speed limit could soon be reduced to 30kmph

-

THE speed limit on one of County Sligo’s busiest thoroughfares could be reduced in the near future.

Shore Road in Strandhill is a hive of activity all through the year but particularly during the summer.

This comes following a motion tabled by Fianna Fail Councillor Tom MacSharry, who called on the council to reduce the speed limit from 50 kmph to 30 kmph.

In his reply to Cllr MacSharry, Director of Services Tom Kilfeather said that the move will be considered at the next Annual Speed Limit Review, which he said “will take place in the not too distant future.” Mr Kilfeather said the review was due to take place last year but was held up at Transport Infrastructure Ireland level.

In his motion, Cllr MacSharry said that only through “the grace of God an accident hasn’t happened there”. He continued: “A lot of young families use that street all times of the year.”

The motion was seconded by Fianna Fail Cllr Rosaleen O’Grady.
