Speed counter outside Keash NS
A speed counter is to be installed outside Keash National School to assess what t ype of traffic calming measures are needed in the area.
Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley said a ‘calamity’ is inevitable given the speed of passing motorists in the morning during drop-off hours and also in the afternoon when pupils are being collected.
Cllr Gormley called on Sligo County Council to provide a pedestrian crossing in the interest of safet y. But in his reply, Director of Ser vices Tom Kilfeather said a defined crossing point was needed, but that a pedestrian crossing would not be suitable on a quiet local road.
Mr Kilfeather added that a counter would be installed on the road to assess speeds and that an overall scheme needed to be prepared which would take into account any safet y issues at the l ocation.
He also suggested that such a scheme could be included in the 2019 CLÁR programme.
