Sligo County Council have been granted €50,000 by the Office of Public Works, to assist in drainage works to be carried out on the Owenmore River.
Director of Services at the council, Tom Kilfeather informed councillors of this at this month’s meeting, on foot of a motion put forward by Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley who requested an update on works to be carried out.
MrKilfeather, speaking on behalf of Senior Engineer Tom Brennan said the council engaged with JBA Consulting who carried out a survey of the river to identify a programme of works to be undertaken.
A detailed topographic survey and environmental assessment on the section of the river between Temple House lake and Thornhill bridge will be undertaken, with a view to removing obstructions to flow in the river between the two points.
MrKilfeather said that on completion of the work, the Owenmore Drainage Committee will be informed of the outcome of the studies and submissions will be made to the OPW for a scheme to draw down the funding under.
