BALLYMOTE are through to Abbott Cup final after a hard fought win against Owenmore Gaels last Sunday in Connolly Pk. Ballymote playing with the wind in the first half took an early lead with points from Marty Underwood, Niall Brennan, Niall Colsh and Peter Lyons. Defence played well holding Owenmore Gaels to 3 points from frees. Ballymote led by 0-8 to 0-3 at half time. Second half Owenmore Gaels got more ball and with Ballymote losing centre back Paul Mullin to injury Owenmore Gaels reduced the deficit to 2 points. In midfield Michael Rafferty and Michael Doody regained control and with Niall Brennan on form and introduction of Dylan Martin and Mark Irwin Ballymote won by 4 points. Final score Owenmore Gaels 0-12 Ballymote 0-16. ON Saturday last we hosted the hugely successful “Hugh McLoughlin” tournament at Hazelwood.
THIS year’s tournament took a different format in that along with playing games the young u/10 teams had to take part in shooting exercises and skills and drills tests.
WHEN all the points were added up, it was the local team Calry St Joseph’s who defeated both Enniscrone and St Michael’s to win the to.win the much coveted trophy.
A sincere thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a huge success in memory of such a great man, and especially to Enniscrone and St Michael’s for making the journey in to partake with us . Also a very special World of Tanks to our referee for the day Declan O’Boyle

NO game for the seniors this week as St Michael’s were unable to field a team.
THE juniors suffered a heavy defeat to Naomh Molaise Gaels on Saturday evening at Hazelwood. PICTURES are the victorious under 10 team and coaches with the silverware. THE Cloonacool/Tubber U-14 footballers had a good victory at home last week to Drumcliffe/Rosses/Point on a 5-6 to 0-5 scoreline.Our men’s senior team with a number of fringe players getting a run out, went down to Eastern Harps at home in the Abbot Cup competition semi-final in the community park on Saturday evening last by the narrowest of margins on a 2-5 to 0-12 scoreline. Training continues during the week at the usual times and dates. The U-12 division 1&3 teams travel to Kent Park to take on St. Mary’s in the league on Tuesday evening next 19th of June at 6.30 pm. The Sligo minor team will play Mayo on Saturday evening next, at 5 pm with the venue to be confirmed. The best of luck is extended to the Sligo senior team, panel and management as they prepare to take on opponents Armagh in Markievicz Park on Saturday evening next June 23 rd at 6 pm.in the All-Ireland qualifiers. All support would be greatly appreciated. The annual national school sports day will be held when St. Michael’s national school re-opens in September. Sympathy is extended to former senior club player Peter McIntyre (Dublin and formerly LeitrimNorth) and a wider circle of family and friends, on the sudden passing of Kate McIntyre recently abroad. Also to the family, relatives and friends of the late Kathleen Kilgannon of Carrentubber, who went to her eternal reward during the last week. May they rest in peace.

DRUMCLIFFE/ROSSES POINT
It’s Connacht final Sunday for the Sligo ladies footballers as they bid for a three-in-a-row of provincial intermediate titles. Roscommon provide the opposition in Castlebar this Sunday at 2pm. Best wishes to the DRP contingent on the panel: Michelle McNamara, Sinéad Regan and Jayne McCormack.
Good luck to Neil Ewing and the Sligo men’s senior footballers who play Armagh in round two of the All-Ireland football qualifiers on Saturday evening at Markievicz Park. Throw-in: 6pm. Remember, the game must be decided on the day.

On the club front, our senior men’s footballers returned to winning ways last Sunday in the Kiernan Cup when they ran out 1-14 to 1-8 winners against an understrength St Mary’s team at Oxfield. Despite the slippery conditions, DRP established a 1-9 to 0-3 half-time lead with Kevin Davey finding the net. St Mary’s hinted at a revival shortly after the restart when they goaled, but were are able to re-establish control of the game to finish six points clear. The result moves us up to second in the Group 2 table. We travel to Grange this Sunday to play St Molaise Gaels at 1pm. The winners of that game will qualify for the Kiernan Cup final.
The junior team were given a walkover against Castleconnor in Division last Friday evening. They travel to play Easkey this Friday evening at 8pm.
After the recent excitement of the All-Ireland Hurling Féile na nGael, Benbulben Gaels Under 14 hurlers will aim to retain their league title this Thursday evening when they play Tourlestrane in the final at Markievicz Park. Throw-in is at 8pm. The players and management would appreciate big support for this game.
Well done to Drumcliffe Handball Club who competed in the 2018 Féile na nGael Handball finals in County Galway at the weekend. The club had two teams competing in Annaghdown and Salthill on Saturday last. The standard was very high and the players will have learned a lot from the experience.
Our girls U8 and U10 nursery footballers will play a fun blitz this Friday June 22nd in Oxfield at 7pm. Players are asked to assemble by 6:45pm.
Our U6 boys and girls nursery footballers (players born 2012 and 2013) have been invited to play a fun blitz with St Mary’s this Saturday 24th at Kent Park, starting at 12pm. This event will replace our usual 9:45am coaching session this week. More details will be communicated to parents/guardians in the coming days.
The club’s monthly meeting for June takes place on Monday 25th in Oxfield at 9pm.

EASTERN HARPS
OUR third walk in our Walking Series took place this morning in the beautiful surroundings of Ben Bulben Forest Walk (aka Gortarowey). An excellent crowd of 33 adults and children set off for this scenic 5.5k walk. Although the weather was a little bit overcast and damp, everyone enjoyed the scenery which can be seen in the photographs. Afterwards we adjourned to the lovely Drumcliffe Tea House for a very welcome tea/coffee, homemade scones and, most importantly, a good chat. Our next walk will take place in Killaspugbrone, Strandhill on Sunday, 15th July. We hope to see you all there. Further details will be published nearer the time. Our senior men play Tourlestrane in round 5 of the Kiernan cup on Sunday at 1pm in Keash. Our U12s are away to St. Molaise Gaels on Tuesday at 6.45pm. Our U16s play Ballymote/Bunninadden in Bunninadden on Monday June 25th at 7pm in round 9 of the league. Bingo continues every Friday night at 8.30pm in Gurteen Hall. Jackpot is €2,600 in 47 calls or less. The in house lotto is €600.
ENNISCRONE/ KILGLASS
A late Shane Hargadon goal salvaged a 1-12 to 0-15 draw for our intermediate team against old rivals Easkey in a competitive Benson Cup clash at Quigabar last Sunday. A point down at the break having played into the wind in the opening half, our lads will be disappointed not to have kicked on in the second period. Prior to throw-in a minute’s silence was observed in memory of former club player and executive member Gerry Gilroy RIP. Next Sunday at 1pm the lads have their final group game against Castleconnor in Corballa.
A depleted U-14 team were beaten by Geevagh/St Michael’s last Thursday, 6-9 to 1-9, meaning they now enter the shield competition.
OUR U-12s return to action on Tuesday evening at home to Curry from 7pm. OUR U-10s had a very enjoyable outing at Calry/St Joseph’s GAA club on Saturday morning where they finished second in a blitz competition. Most encouraging however was the team’s success in the skills competition which illustrates the excellent work being carried out at this age group. Well done to all and thanks to the Calry/ St Joseph’s club for their hospitality. WELL done to the Enniscrone/Kilglass Mothers and Others squad and their coach Paul on their excellent performance at the Connacht Blitz at the GAA Centre in Ballyhaunis on Saturday last. After Ballymote built up a lead we just couldn’t close the gap, despite our best efforts. We now re-focus on the league with a crucial home game vs Curry in two weeks time.

CLUB Lotto THE Lotto draw took place in Cullen’s Bar on Monday 11th June. The numbers drawn were 12, 14, 17 &22. THERE was no winner of the €9,300 Jackpot. Congrats to our ‘Match 3’ Winners Fergal Gunning and Declan Feeney who each win €50.

WELL done to our under 17 hurlers who defeated Monaghan on Saturday last and have reached the semi final of the Michael Feery Cup in the Celtic Challenge. Sligo defeated Monaghan by 2-20 to 4-9. St. Farnan’s players contributed 1-17 of that tally- Cahan Hallinan (0-6), Thomas Cawley (08(7f), Fionn Connolly (1-3) and Shane Molloy a key defender.
