All invited to Calry NS School Reunion

PUPILS who attended the (old) Calry National School from 1940s right through to the school’s closure in 1989 are meeting up again for a School Reunion this summer.

The get-together will take place at St. Patrick’s National School, Calry on August 4 th. Former pupils are invited to attend from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on the day to view photos, memorabili­a and enjoy a chat with some light refreshmen­ts.

Among the alumni of Calry NS is former Westlife singer Mark Feehily, the late RTE producer/director Justin Nelson and the 19 th century local poet and journalist, Michael Hargadon, who emigrated to Canada in 1915 and made his name there as the author of the poem, To Those They Left Behind.

This and other poems by Hargadon will be exhibited for the Calry NS Reunion.

Calry NS Reunion have a Facebook page which they will be updating with photos and memories.

Committee members include Marie McPartlin, Jim Branley, Anne Connolly, Marie Fowley, Bernardine McGauran and Liam O’Boyle.
