Our senior men’s footballers were beaten by neighbours St Molaise Gaels in the Kiernan Cup last Sunday on a final scoreline of 3-14 to 3-10. The atten- tion now turns back to the league this weekend as we host Curry at Oxfield on Sunday afternoon at 5pm. A win here will ensure our Division 1 status for next season. Our thanks to the Under 8 and Under 10 footballers of St Molaise Gaels and Calry/St Joseph’s who joined us last Friday evening in Oxfield for the Sligo LGFA girls blitz, played in glorious sunshine. The Under 6 nursery footballers took part in a very enjoyable blitz with St Mary’s GAA club last Saturday. Our thanks to St Mary’s for hosting the event. Our U8 and U10 nursery footballers play a midweek blitz this Wednesday 27th when we welcome Owenmore Gaels to Oxfield at 7pm. The club held a goalkeeping coaching clinic at Oxfield last Monday evening. Thank you to Pat Kilcoyne for coming along to give the session. There’s still time to register for the Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp which takes place at Oxfield from July 16-20th. Well done to all the competitors from Rosses Point and Drumcliffe areas who took part in the Sligo Community Games track and field finals at IT Sligo at the weekend.

ST MARY’S

THIS week, both our U14 girls squad and our u14 boys squad have the excitement of participating in Feile, and all roads lead to Meath or Cavan, where first matches will be held on Friday. Both squads have been fantastic in their commitment to the preparations and we wish them well for the competitions. The lads have had a busy last 10 days with 4 well chosen fixtures. Last Thursday, we hosted St Molaise Gaels and earned an encouraging victory against a strong Grange side. After an even start, we began to pull away and secured a comfortable win. The victory however was marred by a serious collarbone injury to Ronan O’Hehir. All within the club wish Ronan a full and speedy recovery. Then on Monday last, the lads travelled to Collooney to play Owenmore Gaels. This time we started strongly and had control of the game until a late Owenmore Gaels comeback gave the scoreboard a truer reflection of this entertaining game. On Friday, the lads travelled to McCumhaills in Ballybofey with 2 teams, and had the excitement of games on the main county ground. An enthralling high-quality older game was superb Feile preparation with the younger players also feeding off the historic venue to give an equally strong performance. Finally on Sunday morning, Feile preparations concluded when we entertained Manorhamilton and after an even 1st two quarters, we pulled away late on in sweltering conditions. The focus shifts to Feile and Navan will be the venue where we start our Feile journey this Friday.

THE U14 Girls have had a completely different preparation for the Feile, as their league final is on this Wednesday evening against Eoghan Rua, which needs 100% concentration before attention can switch to the Feile. Fingers crossed that they will be victorious and get a great boost in advance of travelling to Feile. Thanks to everyone involved in preparing both squads, anyone participating in the fundraisers for the weekend and to their all-important supporters. The U12 boys were out over the week and recorded two fantastic victories against Tubbercurry/ Cloonacool. The younger team had a comfortable win, while our division one lads won what was undoubtedly their toughest game of the league by a narrow margin of two scores. This week focus changes to Eastern Harps who we play away on Tuesday at 7pm. This will be a big test for our boys against one of the favourites for the competition, and support would be appreciated.

THE U12 Girls continue training on Tuesdays and Saturdays and Championship awaits in July. The U10 girls hosted Coolera in Kent Park on Saturday morning for our first home game in the Sligo LGFA games series, and then travelled to MacHale Park on Sunday where they played against Fenagh-St Caillins at half time of the Connacht LGFA Intermediate Final. It was a great weekend’s football for the girls which they thoroughly enjoyed and showed how well they are progressing.

OUR commiserations to the Sligo County team on losing to Armagh, and bowing out of this year’s Senior Championship. There were plenty of encouraging signs, and the tight margins at the Senior level demand so much of everyone and this builds experience. Well done to everyone, particularly the St Marys players and it bodes well for the future.
