Places filling fast for the Hazelwood Tri in July

FOLLOWING on from previous years’ successful events, this July 7th sees the third successive Olympic distance triathlon hosted by Sligo Triathlon Club in the beautiful surrounds of Hazelwood forest on the shores of the world famous Lough Gill.

This Triathlon Ireland event will comprise a 1500 metre swim in Lough Gill at the sheltered Half Moon Bay, followed by a 40km technical bike course through the picturesqu­e countrysid­e taking in county Leitrim on route around the lake and then back towards Sligo.

The 10km run comprises 3 loops along a forest trail with some welcome shade under the forest canopy.

Many of the top triathlete­s from Sligo Triathlon Club and neighbouri­ng clubs including MSC, Liquid motion, Loughkey, Longford and Galway triathlon clubs as well as competitor­s from clubs all over Ireland will be out in force to compete in this great event.

Sligo Triathlon Club race committee said: “We would like to acknowledg­e our sincere thanks to Coillte for making their lands available to us to host this event, to Sligo County Council for arranging road closures and the provision of cones and barriers allowing us to hold a safe event and to Leitrim County Council and an Garda Síochána also for their support.

“We would also like to thank our generous sponsors Call of the Wild, Run Pod, Voya,Total Produce Food Services, Fusion Finance, Chain Drive Cycles and The Sligo Champion.

“Without the support of local businesses we would not be in a position to host these events,” they said. Entries are filling up fast and all interested in competing are urged to get their entry in before it is too late.

“Happy racing and see you on July 7th!,” the race committee added.
