RANSBORO ROAD RACE
The annual Ransboro Road Race, now in its ninth year has raised vital funds every year for local charities. This year all money raised will go to the Elaine O’Halloran Rehabilitation support fund. Starting and finishing at Ransboro Church the 5k and 10k routes take in the beautiful views of Knocknarea and Ballisadare Bay as they wind their way through quiet country backroads. Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome and can register through the Ransboro 10K website or coretiming.com. There is a 10k run, 5k run and a 5k walk.
That evening there will be live music and barbecue in Coolera House starting at 9 p.m. with music from Tenekee Station. Tickets are €10 and all proceeds go to the Elaine O’Halloran fund.
On Saturday, November 25, Elaine was a passenger and sole survivor of a fatal car accident in Wellington, Florida. Elaine, 24, from Strandhill, County Sligo, Ireland lives in Wellington, Florida asan Equestrian Groom taking care of top level showjumpers.
She was taken immediately to St Mary’s Medical Trauma Centre in West Palm Beach, Florida. Since that night she has had reconstructive spinal surgery which was successful, but currently has paralysis from the waist down. Only time will tell if this is a permanent condition. Elaine will need to undergo extensive rehabilitation therapy for the foreseeable future.
Due to her diagnosis, she will have to remain in the USA to receive this treatment. Elaine did not have medical insurance to cover this catastrophic event.
All money raised will go solely to Elaine’s rehabilitation expenses. This will help Elaine to focus solely on her recovery and access the treatment she so desperately needs.
