GOLF OUTING

One of the oldest Golf Societies operating in Connacht continues its annual golf outing to Enniscrone Golf Club on Monday, August 13. The Tubbercurry Golf outing to Enniscrone has been in existence for well over 40 years and is always played in August in Enniscrone.

For the last 35 years, the Society’s outing was sponsored by the Gillespie Family to whom the society owe a great debt of gratitude. However, the Gillespie Cup was retired last year in its 35th year and the old society outing is now resuming under the new brand name of the ‘Tubber Master’s Society’.

The society outing to Enniscrone existed long before the current Tubbercurry Golf Club existed and it is fair to say that it was out of the annual society that the idea for the formation of the current course in Tubbercurry was formulated. There are huge links going back for years between Tubbercurry and Enniscrone Golf Clubs.

While the day is based around a golf competition, the main purpose of the event is an opportunity for people with connections with Tubbercurry, South Sligo and surrounding areas to meet and renew old acquaintances. Indeed there are a number of people who have not missed the outing since its inception and have played in every single outing, quite often in the same four-ball.

The format will be the exact same as in previous years which is a Singles Stableford and all members of Tubbercurry Golf Club are automatically members of the society and anybody with an association with Tubbercurry, South Sligo and surrounding areas, whether they are regular golfers or not, are welcome to join us for a day’s fun in the glorious surroundings of Enniscrone Golf Club.

While the Gillespie Cup has been retired, John Gillespie continues to be involved in the promotion of the society and John, as in recent years, is taking entries for this year’s competition. John can be contacted on mobile number 087 2885980 or by email at shopgillespie@eircom. net. If you are interested in playing, contact John on mobile or by email and he will ensure that you are on the timesheet. As in former years, the day’s golf outing will be followed by a meal and a presentation which is always a fun occasion.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Enniscrone on Monday, August 13, for the ‘Tubber Masters’.
