PUBLIC WIFI LAUNCHES
We can now log on to the internet for free in Sligo town centre using a new public Wifi service launched on Monday.
The wifi will now be available in all the main shopping streets in Sligo thanks to a private venture by Magnet Networks in collaboration with local businesses and Sligo Business Improvement District (BID).
The July County Council meeting heard the Council’s Head of Enterprise John Reilly and Nigel Carter of the IT Department report that ten external wifi access points on the front of businesses throughout the city centre will provide the free wifi.
Businesses and any other interested parties will be able to use the wifi to promote their products, services and events to users who sign up.
People only need to register once, so visitors to various Magnet-connected towns along the Wild Atlantic Way will automatically enjoy free connectivity at no cost in all of those towns.
“The new wifi service also contributes to the wider Council agenda of developing Sligo as a Smart City and to the wider agenda of Sligo being the capital of a progressive county and region,” said Reilly.
