Ransboro 10k takes place
IN sweltering conditions, Sligo AC’s JP Carty scorched his way to victory in the Ransboro 10K. JP led from the off to finish in 32:03 with Westport’s Shaun McLaughlin 2nd in 33:45. JP’s winning time was also a new course record, eclipsing David Kelly’s course record of 32:35. Anna Reddin was the Ladies winner in 37:21.North Sligo’s Eamonn Murphy won the 5K in 18: 04 with Sligo Ac’s Audrey Colreavy taking the Ladies section in 19:58. There were also great performances by local athletes at the National Junior and U23 Championships in Tullamore at the weekend. Aaron Cadden U23 100m 4th 11:02, Aaron Cadden U23 200m 22.8 (heats), Leo Doherty 800m Junior 3rd 1:57:68, Finley Daly 3000m Steeplechase Junior 1st 9:45, Eva Delahunt 3000m Walk Junior 5th 16:17, Ryan Roberts 5000m Walk Junior 4th 28:42, Lauren Cadden 200m Junior 2nd 24:73, Mathew McMeekin 3000m Steeplechase U23 2nd 11:36. Colm McBrien North Sligo AC took a terrific 4th place in U20 national championships in the 400m with a great new pb of 50.82. It is a breakout performance from the North Sligo athlete against several underage internationals and points to a very bright future in the event. Colm is a junior again next year, but will now focus on the U19 championships taking place in two weeks’ time. Conor Herity also ran at the championships finishing 7th in both heats of the 100 and 200 metres. Paul Cleary finished 7th in both the javelin and the shot putt.
