Hero’s welcome to Lory Meagher winning captain

-

FRESH from lifting the Lory Meagher cup after their dramatic late winner over Lancashire, Sligo hurling captain Keith Raymond received a hero’s welcome when paying a visit to St John’s NS in Ballisodare a few days later. The Calry/ St Joseph’s clubman and his Sligo teammates were in their third Lory Meagher cup fi- nal in 4 years and with 2 previous defeats, this victory over Lanca- shire last Saturday week was extremely special for the Yeats men. Darragh Cox and Daithí Hand took over as joint managers at the start of the season and when Kevin Gilmartin scored an epic late goal for Sligo, the Lory Meagher cup was finally home- ward bound to the Northwest.

The cup has been busy travelling across the county since the historic win and among the other schools it visited was St Patrick’s NS in Calry, as a number of players on the team hail from Calry/St Joseph’s club.

The team also visited Coolera/Strandhill with their silverware, the seaside club having numerous players on the side too.

When Keith visited St John’s NS in Ballisodare the captain also did the honours of raising the school’s Active Schools and a Green Schools Flag.
