GARLAND SUNDAY

Planning is commencing for the weekend of July 28/29 for this special weekend in Carraroe. Anyone interested is assisting is asked to contact the parish office at 071 9162136.

SPEEDING ON OUR ROADS

Please to reduce speed on our roads as a number of residents have highlighte­d near misses recently. The Chief Superinten­dent Sligo/Leitrim has been requested to address the issue in interest of safety of our community.

SLIGO TOWN DRAFT PLAN

Residents should note there were many submission­s made seeking housing zoning for Tullynagra­cken North and Tullynagra­cken South in Carraroe. Residents are advised to examine the draft plan when it goes on display later this year.

NO IFS OR BUTTS

Cadra is running the above campaign and is appealing to people not to dump cigarette butts from cars on to our roads. This activity leaves a piece of white filter paper on our roads causing unpleasant litter. Remember ‘Be Green Keep Carraroe Clean’ is our campaign slogan. Your assistance and cooperatio­n will be appreciate­d.

DANCING

Dance class followed by live band each Wednesday night in Carraroe Community Centre Sligo. Dance class commences at 8.30 p.m. with live band following. Learn to jive, waltz, Quick Step and more. Beginners and Improvers welcome. Tomorrow night July 4 Jason Moyles will provide the live music. SCHOOL NEWS

The school closed for the summer Holidays last Wednesday. We wish the teachers, staff and the boys and girls a happy summer break. Please remember that the grounds of the school are private property. CCTV is in operation on the grounds and no one has permission to trespass during the summer.

Traffic Guidelines – All parents using the school will receive a copy of the new traffic guidelines which come into operation from September in relation to drop off and collection at the school. This has been approved by the board of management and staff of Carraroe National School, together with the parents’ associatio­n, the Community Garda Unit, Sligo County Council and local Residents. Please read them carefully.

TIDY TOWNS

The adjudicati­on process has commenced and lasts till mid-August. All residents are requested to assist present our area to it best by cleaning outside own property. It is recommende­d people clean a few meters each side of own property. We are also appealing for all residents to assist as litter pickers to undertake regular weekly pick.

IF THEY POOP YOU SCOOP

People walking their dogs on Carraroe roads are requested to remove fouling and not to dump into hedges as the plastic bags do not disintegra­te and have to be removed by litter pickers – please bring home and bin. There is an on the spot fine of €150 for such offences. Pooper – scoopers are available free from Sligo County Council.

ST JOHN’S GAA CLUB

Lotto draw jackpot now €12,150. In the last draw there was no jackpot winner. If you wish to book the community centre, please contact the parish office at 071 9162136. Most morning, afternoons and some evening are available. Please be conscious of other groups using the centre and stick to your allocated time.

HALL HIRE

Our Centre is available for room and hall hire at very competitiv­e rates, and we offer excellent facilities for sports, meetings, parties and social events, including our sports hall, changing rooms with showers etc.

Our hall is very popular for sports events, and also for children’s parties as it can accommodat­e a bouncy castle. Do pop in to have a look, or call the centre on 914 6512. Contact the centre office at 071 9150029 for details.

PENDANT ALARMS

Merville centre facilitate on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of social monitored pendant alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administer­ed by pobal. Equipment funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installati­on of an monitored alarm on a landline in the persons home.

The annual monitoring charge is then payable by the user. Contact the Merville centre office at 071 9150029 for further informatio­n.
