Wishing both of our teams the very best of luck in the upcoming Connacht Finals which will be based in Carrick on Shannon on July 14 and 15. Under-15 girls Futsal under-12 girls’ Soccer will proudly represent Ballymote and Sligo. All support will be appreciate­d.

The County Finals of Track and Field took place in a sunny Sligo IT on Saturday and Sunday, June 23, and 24. Ballymote was represente­d by 20 different athletes in many different competitio­ns and did themselves and their area proud. We brought home five medals congratula­tions and well done to Ailbhe Scully – bronze in under-6 girls, Ellen Sweeney – bronze in under-8 80m Girls, Chantelle Kielty – silver in under-10 girls Hurdles, Shaun Haugh – bronze in under-16 boys 200m and finally, special congratula­tions to Sonny Muldoon, who won gold in under-16 boys Discus. Sonny will go to Limerick to represent Sligo in the national finals. Well done, everyone.

BEGINNERS WALKING GROUP

Why not come along and join the Ballymote Beginners Walking Group, who will be meeting at a new time for the summer months. This walk will kick off today, Tuesday, July 3, and will take place every Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a qualified walking leader. Registrati­on starts at 6.45 p.m. from the Ballymote Family Resource Centre. Everyone is welcome back to the Ballymote FRC after the walk for a social cuppa and chat. LOTTO

There was no winner of the Ballymote Community lotto jackpot on Saturday, June 23, Numbers drawn were 2, 16, 22 and 23. There were two match-three winners, names of winners are displayed locally. The jackpot now stands at €4,200. The next draw will take place in John Doddy’s on Saturday, July 7. Ballymote Community lotto supports Gaelic, Soccer and Handball Clubs, the Loftus Hall and Ballymote Community Parks. Thank you for your continued support.

The annual clothes collection in aid of Ballymote/Community Parks/Haiti is on-going. The previous collection raised €730 for both the Parks and Haiti. Clothes, towels, bed linen, boots, shoes, runners, leather bags, blankets accepted. Bags can be left at the first dressing room in Brother Walfrid Park. No pillows or duvets please, thank you for your support.

GAA CLUB DRAWS

Ballymote GAA will launch the first of their monthly draws in John Doddy’s on Saturday, July 7. €1,000 to giveaway every month. Simple to enter €2 per week, €8 per month, €100 to enter for year. Funds raised in aid of Ballymote GAA Club and Bord na Og GAA player developmen­t. Thank you for your support.

OLD FAIR DAY FESTIVAL

The Tubbercurr­y Old Fair Day Festival committee wish to invite you to the launch of the 33rd festival on Thursday, July 5, at 8.30 p.m. in the O’C Bar in Tubbercurr­y. Our five-day festival runs from Saturday, August 4, to Wednesday, August 8. Thank you for your support.

JACK KILGANNON R.I.P.

The recent death occurred of Jack Kilgannon, late of Meadow Brook, Tubbercurr­y and formerly of Teeling St., Tubbercurr­y. Aged 88, Jack died peacefully in the wonderful care of Baileys Nursing Home where he had resided over the last few years.

A native of Largan, next door to the church at Lough Talt, Jack was by his own admission a mischievou­s young man, who told the story as it was. In his early 20’s Jack hit for New York in the early 1950s and when there he married his sweetheart Agnes Haran from Tubbercurr­y. They returned to Tubbercurr­y in the mid 1960s and resided in Teeling Street for the next 40 years.

Over those 40 years Jack had various occupation­s including Basta employee, bus driver for Gallagher House and part time fireman with the local fire station. Never a man to mince his words, Jack was never afraid to express his opinion on a wide variety of subject. He would say what other people would only think, and this usually worked out for the betterment of all concerned. This frankness endeared him to many.

Jack’s remains reposed at the Morahan Funeral Home and were received at St John the Evangelist Church, Tubbercurr­y, with burial taking place in Rhue Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Agnes, son Michael, daughters Patricia and Monica, sisters Maisie, Nodie and Rita, grandchild­ren, in laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends all to whom sympathy is extended. May he rest in Peace.

JOHN JOHNSTON R.I.P.

The recent peaceful death occurred of John/(Johnny) Johnston, late of Cloonarara, Lavagh. In his 90th year at his death, Johnny was predecease­d in the last 10 years by his beloved wife Kathleen and his son Peter.

He worked all his working life for CIE (Irish Rail) and worked on maintenanc­e of the Sligo Dublin and Sligo-Limerick lines throughout, Co. Sligo. He also enjoyed his bit of farming during evenings and weekends. Johnny was a very Christian person, and after retirement and as time allowed, he was a daily Mass attender at either Lavagh or Tubbercurr­y, driving his own car till shortly before his death.

His remains reposed at the house of his son and daughter-in-law Tom and Ann in Ballyglass and removal took place to the Church of the Sacret Heart, Mullinabre­ena for Mass of the Resurrecti­on. Burial took place in Court Abbey Cemetary.

Johnny is survived by a large loving family, including his sons Gerard, Padraic, Kevin, Brendan, Tom and Ollie, daughter Mary, sisters Kathleen McCarrick and Margaret McIntyre, brothers Eddie and Brendan, in laws, grand-children, great grandchild­ren, great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and large circle of friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May he rest in Peace.

MAUREEN DURKIN R.I.P.

The recent death occurred after a short illness of Maureen Durkin (née Kirrane) late of Culleen, Tourlestra­ne. In her mid 80’s Maureen was predecease­d by her husband Johnny some years ago.

Maureen was a primary School teacher in the Boys National School Tubbercurr­y for many years from early 1970s mid 90’s when she retired and was always considered firm and considerat­e by all her students and highly respected by both students and parents. She had a great interest in Gaelic Football and followed the fortunes not alone of Tourlestra­ne with whom her sons played, but also those of her many past pupils in Tubbercurr­y.

Her remains reposed at the Brennan Funeral home Kilmactigu­e and burial took place in Kilmactigu­e Cemetary.

Maureen is survived by her sons Michael, Shane and Eamon, daughters-in-law, grandchild­ren, brothers Tony and Oliver, sisters Frances and Noreen inlaws, nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May she rest in Peace.

KATE MCINTYRE R.I.P

The tragic and sudden death occurred recently in Valencia, Spain of Kate McIntyre. Kate was wife of Peter McIntyre who is a native of Leitrim North, Cloonacool.

Kate was a native of Valentia Island, Co. Kerry and she met Peter as young adults after moving to Dublin to take up their budding careers nearly 40 years ago. Peter played football successful­ly with Tubbercurr­y through the 1970s and early 80’s and they always had a special affection for Tubbercurr­y and Cloonacool with strong family connection­s. Both were regular visitors to Tubbercurr­y where they owned a home.

Kate’s remains reposed at Sallynoggi­n and funeral at Mount Jerome Crematoriu­m. Kate will be missed by here loving husband Peter, daughters Sinéad and Eimear and the extended McIntyre family Cloonacool, and her own extended family in Kerry, all to whom sympathy is extended. May she rest in Peace.

MAY FAUL R.I.P.

The recent death occurred of Mary (May) Faul (née Stone) late of Ballina Road, Tubbercurr­y. In her mid 80’s May was wife of the late Tommy Eddie Faul and they lived on Ballina Road, Tubbercurr­y.

A quiet spoken lady, May was a great gardener, and here flowers in her front garden each year brightened up the road greatly. Over the last few years May lived with her daughter Roma in Kells, Co. Meath.

Her remains were received at St John Evangelist Church, Tubbercurr­y for solemn requieum Mass and burial took place in Rhue Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter Roma, son Noel, grandchild­ren, son and daughter-in-law and various in laws and friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

The local Active Retirement Associatio­n is suspending meetings for the months of July and August and wish to thank all members and friends for their support during the past year. June has been a very busy month for the group socially.

As well as their usual programme of activities, members have enjoyed a very pleasant week in North Wales, have attended the annual Sportsfest in Sligo where they were represente­d by their Curling team, took part in the Young at Heart Evening at Sligo Races and have, this week, been well entertaine­d by a session at Eagles Flying, Ballymote, followed by an excellent Lunch in the Coach House Hotel.

Some bowling practice will take during the rest of the summer in preparatio­n for the AR all-Ireland Competitio­ns in September.
