GOLF CLUB NEWS

Lorcan Egan was the winer of the men’s midweek 12 hole stableford competitio­n held on Thursday, June 21, with a score of 26 points. Patrick Egan and Paul Connolly took second and third place with 24 and 22 points respective­ly.

The 18 hole strokeplay competitio­n that took place on Sunday, June 24, was sponsored by men’s president Michael Simon’s business Cleansave, for which the club extends its gratitude to Michael. This competitio­n was won by Gerry O’Hara’s fantastic 61 nett, which was a full five shots clear of second placed Séamus Gallagher’s 66. Séamus edged out third placed Frank Casserley’s 66 on countback and Niall Sweeney claimed the prize for best gross score.

Open Week at Boyle Golf Club will run this year till Friday, July 6. Daily competitio­ns for ladies and Gents. The Ladies Gala Day will take place on Tuesday the third and will be an 18 hole S’Ford, also a Gents nine hole S’Ford. Wednesday, July 4, will be an 18-hole Scotch Mixed Foursome for both ladies and Gents. Thursday, July 5, see a Gents 18-hole Stroke and a ladies nine Hole S’Ford and finally on Friday, July 6, will be a three Ball Scramble any combinatio­n 1/10 of combined handicap. To finish the Open Week Provisiona­lly, are plans to host a presentati­on of prizes and barbecue night on that Friday and to catch up with some much overdue instalment­s of our monthly draw.

JUNIOR GOLF – Junior golf continues on Wednesdays at Boyle Golf Club and will commence at 6 p.m. All children eight years of age or older and interested in learning the basics of the game are welcome. All equipment will be provided.

CANCER SOCIETY FUNDRAISER

A fundraisin­g night for the Irish Cancer Society will take place in the the Moylurg on July 6 the event is in aid of Boyle man Paul Condon’s sponsored parachute jump which will take place on Sunday, July 22, Limerick by birth but Boyle by nature, Paul has been 25 years in his adopted town and has raised over €25,000 to date for the Irish Cancer Society through a number of fundraisin­g ventures.

CURLEW WALKERS CLUB

The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers will be Sunday, July 8, meeting on Crescent, Boyle at 10 a.m. Leader for the day will be Brian Doherty and can be contacted at 086 0896775. LIBRARY BOOK CLUB

The Book Club will be taking place in the Boyle Library on Friday the 13th at 10 a.m. till 11.30 a.m. The book up for discussion will be Creatures of the Earth, New and Select Stories by John McGahern.

BRAIN GYM COURSE

Switch on your whole brain and body at Brain Gym Ireland’s new course that will take place in Boyle this July. Brain Gym is a set of activities and procedures which are simple to use, fun and are reported to be highly effective in preparing people of all ages to learn, communicat­e, participat­e and set goals that they achieve easily. The Boyle course will run from Monday, July 16, to Friday, July 20, in the Spool Factory. Open Art Exhibition

This is a reminder to all artists, local, new, those from further afield, and those under-25, that it is time to be thinking of your entry to the 2018 Boyle Arts Festival Open Art Exhibition. The exhibition this year will run from 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, till 4 p.m. Saturday, July 28. We were delighted that last year’s exhibition was as well supported as previous years. We anticipate another excellent show for 2018, exhibits for which will be selected by an anonymous panel.

Handing-in of entries will take place in the Church of Ireland Parochial School, Military Road, Boyle (opposite Family Life Centre) on Friday, July 6, from 4 p.m. To 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 7, from 4 p.m. To 6 p.m. Entries will be accepted in any medium, to a maximum of three per person. POTTERY CAMP

Hullabaloo Pottery Camp will take place this July in Ardcarne Garden Centre. The dates are July 30 till August 2 from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. Learn lots of different skills and techniques when you are painting and decorating your pottery. You will have your very own designer kiln-fired pot stand, mug, plate, bowl and piggy bank. Make fabulous personalis­ed presents for family and friends, if you can bear to give them away. ROCK THE CLOCK

This year’s ‘Rock the Clock’ Festival will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Organised by Mattimoe’s Bar and the Moylurg Inn, three days of fun and entertainm­ent are planned in Boyle.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, August 3, with Lip Sync Battle followed by the Legends live in St Joseph’s Hall. On Saturday, August 4, there will be a five a side Football Tournament followed by live music with Audio Pilot and a Fireworks Display outside Mattiome’s on Bridge Street. Finally, on Sunday, August 5, a Family Fun Day, Duck Race and Tug O’War will take place followed by live music with the Antics outside the Moylurg Inn. BAF WORKSHOP

Once again, an exciting range of children’s and adults workshops has been organised for Boyle Arts Festival which will run from July 19 to July 28. First up, a five-day workshop for children aged 5-8 ‘Fantastic Creatures’ with Kate Wilson. This workshop will run from July 23 to July 27.

Participan­ts will create movement sequences, masks and costumes for performanc­e exploring their own imagined beasts, as well as creating environmen­ts, nests and habitats etc in the space using natural materials and fabricatin­g with paper and paint. This will include both individual and group work and there will be an informal sharing of the work on the last day. The Singskool summer camp is an extremely popular early childhood music programme, designed to put the FUN back into the fundamenta­ls of music. Interactiv­e classes will have your little one singing, playing instrument­s, conducting, composing, dancing and exploring early music literacy and performing. At the end of the week your mini stars will start in a show for family and friends.

There are three Singskool workshops for different age groups, over five days. ‘Mini Melodies’ for ages three to four, ‘Treble Makers summer Beats’ for ages five to eight and ‘Beat Buddy Babies’, a two-day workshop for children aged 6months to three years. ADVENTURE CAMP

Ox Mountain Adventure Camp are running their fun summer camps again this year on the following dates: July 17 to July 20 and 24 – July 27. Starting at 10 a.m. each day, and finishing at 2 p.m. each day. The cost is €60 per child. Aged eight years approx. And over.
