Bal­ly­mote win Ab­bott Cup with East­ern Harps

Bal­ly­mote In­ter­me­di­ate team were cel­e­brat­ing on Sun­day af­ter win­ning the club’s first piece of sil­ver­ware this year.

They de­feated neigh­bours East­ern Harps in the Ab­bott Cup fi­nal in Bun­ni­nad­den last Sun­day on a score­line of 3-20 to 2-8.

Once Niall Bren­nan, Peter Lyons and Mark Ir­win found some space they pun­ished East­ern Harps by scor­ing 2-7 be­tween in the first 20 minutes. Points fol­lowed from Stephen Ross and Oisín Con­lon and Bal­ly­mote led at half time 2-11 to 1-5. Sec­ond half Bal­ly­mote out played East­ern Harps and with Michael Raf­ferty and Michael Doddy in con­trol of mid­field points fol­lowed from Niall Bren­nan, Peter Lyons and Mark Ir­win. Jack Hever re­placed the in­jured Stephen Ross and put this con­test be­yond doubt with a well taken goal.

Bal­ly­mote’s fi­nal game of the league is next week­end against Cloona­cool in Bal­ly­mote.

Cel­e­bra­tions were some­what sub­dued as half for­ward Stephen Ross needed to be stretchered off and taken to hos­pi­tal by am­bu­lance due to a se­ri­ous con­cus­sion.
