GARDAI in Riverstown have launched an appeal for information after a driver was set upon by a group of masked men in a carjacking at the weekend.
The vehicle, a black Skoda Superb Estate with registration 171 C 5667 was carjacked at a remote T-junction between Riverstown and the N4 on Saturday night at around 9.45pm. It’s understood up to four suspects believed to be male set upon the driver as he was stopped at the junction. Gardai believe they were laying in wait and that the car may have been targeted.
Riverstown Sergeant Therese Duignan confirmed to The Sligo Champion yesterday (Monday): “They were hooded up and wearing Balaclavas. The driver of the car was a man in his mid-forties and although he’s not living in the area he would know it well. He was driving a company car and was in the course of his work when this happened. He was stopped and jumped upon in the middle of nowhere.”
