A feast for the eyes at the Model
FIFTH CAIRDE VISUAL EXHIBITION OPENS
A visit to the Model this summer will certainly be a feast for the eyes thanks to the latest exhibition at the venue.
Cairde Visual is an exhibition organised as part of the Cairde Arts Festival and runs until August 19 th.
The wonderful collection of visual arts was officially opened last Wednesday by local author Brian Leydon.
He remarked on the growth of the show both in terms of scale and ambition and the importance of the exhibition to the region.
A large crowd gathered for the opening evening of what is now the 5 th annual open submission exhibition for Caride.
Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Martin Baker welcomed the guests inviting them to explore the artistic works on display. Director of Cairde Sligo Arts Festival Tara McGowan said:
“The exhibition spans six galleries and features a range of paintings and drawings, sculpture, film, photography and installation from over 70 artists.
“The exhibition has, in a short space of time, become a much-anticipated feature of our festival programme and in the cultural calendar of the region, not to mention an increasingly important fixture for artists all over Ireland and abroad.”
A number of artists won awards on the night including Kate MacDonagh who gets a short-term residency at The Model.
Tina Brooks won a solo show at the Hamilton Gallery and Oonagh Hurley won the Cosgroves’ Delicatessen Award, a €500 cash prize.
