Murder accused remanded

A 31 year old man charged with murder has been further remanded in custody in his absence at Sligo District Court.

Richard McLoughlin of 34 The Laurel’s, Woodtown Lodge is charged with the murder of Jimmy Loughlin at 8 Connolly Street on February 24 th last.

Defending solicitor, Mr Gerard McGovern told Judge Kevin Kilrane last Thursday that the accused wasn’t in court and that he was at present in the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum.

Inspector Donal Sweeney sought an adjournmen­t of the case to July 26 th saying the book of evidence in the case would be ready for serving on that date.

Judge Kilrane remanded the accused in custody in his absence to appear at the court on July 26 th.

He extended time for the service of the book of evidence.

Mr Loughlin (20) had gone to the front door of the house he was living in at Connolly Street after hearing noise sometime around 1.15pm on Saturday, February 24 th.
