Win for Enniscrone/K

GEEVAGH ENNISCRONE/K 0-12 1-11

GEEVAGH missed out on a place in the Fureys Coaches SFL Division Two final when they lost to Enniscrone/Kilglass by two points, 1-11 to 0-12, in a highly competitive final round clash at Geevagh last Sunday.

A win would, as results turned out, have put Geevagh level on points with finalists Castleconnor and Calry/St Joseph’s, but late points from Shane Hargadon and Christopher Tuffy delivered a deserved win for Enniscrone/ Kilglass.

Geevagh had played second fiddle for much of the second half, but to their credit came from three points down to level matters at 0-12 to 1-9 as the game entered injury-time with Kevin Henry, Pat Hughes and Jodie O’Reilly getting three points on the bounce for the home side.

Up to that point, Enniscrone/ Kilglass had dominated proceedings in the second half with Ciaran O’Dowd, Shane Hargadon and Mark Gordon all raising white flags for the visitors.

The sides were level at the break, 0-8 to 1-5. John Paul Carden’s goal late in the half helped Enniscrone/Kilglass get back on level terms, after their early industry was wiped away by a powerful Geevagh side during a 15-minute spell in the middle of the first half. Jodie O’Reilly and Kenneth Sweeney both found the range for Geevagh during their purple patch, after Enniscrone/ Kilglass started well with Michael Moyles kicking two marvellous points to help his side into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead after ten minutes.

The winners got back on level terms after Carden beat Geevagh ‘keeper Darren Kearns from close range. In the second period the west Sligo men worked hard to end as two-point winners.

Geevagh finished the game with 14 men after Kenneth Sweeney saw red late on.
