NEW PLAZA

Work has finished on a new landscaping feature at the bottom of Mountain Road, Tubbercurry. The work took longer than expected but it was intricit work that needed skilled trade and craftsmen, so well done to all concerned. It is a multi level type plaza with flowers and shrub beds and it is quite appealing to the eye. There are low walls in sections which can be used as public seating, and it could turn out to be a venue for random musicians or performances.

TIDY TOWNS

Great work has gone on over the last few months by the Tidy Town committee and workers. While every part of town is close to litter-free, it is a pity that fast food outlets do not do more to ensure wrappings from their premises are not left discarded outside their premises at closing time. The result is that early morning visitors and workers to town are faced with this litter. Landscaping and flower beds are especially attractive at the traffic lights on the Circular Road/ Ballina Road junction and on the Circular Road. Keep up the good work. All property owners can help present the town better by painting the occasional wall, door or gate.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

We would like to give advance notice of a One-Day pilgrimage to Lough Derg being organised for Tuesday, September 4, next. Cost, this year, will be €60, consisting of Lough Derg charge of €45, incl. boat and refreshments, plus €15 charge for coach. This is open to all interested, and please rings 07184053 to book seats. As the number of visitors to Lough Derg is declining annually and funds are badly needed there, we would encourage support of this, one of our most famous Shrines. Come and enjoy a peaceful day on this holy island.
