GAZA KIDS
When a children’s soccer team from the Gaza Strip visited Manorhamilton last summer they won the hearts and minds of the many local people who warmly welcomed them to the Manor astroturf facility and the Bee Park Community Centre.
The Gaza Kids are returning to Manorhamilton again this summer under a scheme that address some very negative humanitarian aspects of everyday life for them in their homeland, which is subject to constant tension and strife, relating to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.
Regarding this year’s trip by the Gaza Kids to the North Leitrim town, Manor Rangers Soccer Club’s Jamie Murphy says ‘the young players from the Al-Helal Football Academy in Gaza will be returning to Ireland this summer; and in what’s fantastic news also making a return trip to Manorhamilton.
‘Last summer the community was honoured to host the kids and we are really looking forward to a return trip this summer.
‘Last year the kids and their coaches were treated to the best of hospitality and community spirit with good food, a trip to Glencar Waterfall, drumming lessons and of course plenty of football. There are huge costs involved in getting the kids from Palestine and this is only possible through the generosity of the community.’.
