LOTS OF FUN IN CRANMORE
THE sun shone and a large crowd attended as Sligo’s biggest community celebrated its annual fun day. There were plenty of activities for all ages at the Sean Fallon football pitch last Saturday afternoon.
There was a barbecue, sports games, facepainting and lots of other activities for the children. Several competitions were judged as part of the celebrations including baking and gardening. Music was provided by DJ Seamie MacManus. The prizes for the hotly contested Best Garden and Street Competition were presented by Cranmore Co-op Board Member Clare Heslin. Sr Rita McGarty presented the shield sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy for best overall garden winner in Cranmore. This was won by Seraphina Davey, Cranmore Place. A baking competition also took place on the day. The ICA played a leading role in the festivities by judging this competition where the variety of baked goods entered were enjoyed by residents afterwards with a cup of tea. Well done to Helen Munn who won 1st prize in the adult category and Blaithin Crumy Melly who won first prize in the kids category.
Various sporting activities were rolled out by Sligo Sport and Recreation coaches and each child who participated were awarded by a medal donated by An Garda Siochana.
Local Councillors also joined in on the activities by competing with the children in a couple of races. Cranmore Co-op thanked those organisations and businesses for their contributions, without which such a successful event would not have possible.
They also thanked all the volunteers for their hard work in ensuring this was a memorable day for the community.
