Warning to check tide times as car gets stuck in the sand

-

GARDAÍ have issued a warning to drivers visiting Coney Island to stick to the route markers and to check the tide times.

The advice comes after Gardaí were called out to assist a family who got stuck in the sand on their journey back from island on Sunday.

The driver went off track and the vehicle got stuck in the soft sand, the Gardaí reported.

They added that a woman passenger was heavily pregnant and that thankfully she remained calm.

With the help of some locals, the car was towed out of the sand and before the tide came in with no damage being caused.

“Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence on this road.

“We would advise people who are not used to making the journey to Coney Island, to stay close to the markers which are there, check tide times and drive with caution when making the journey,” said Gardaí on its Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Gardai have also advised motorists to be on the lookout for deer.

Gardai attended an accident on Sunday on the main Sligo to Dublin road near Ballydrehid.

A car that was on the inside lane travelling towards Collooney was unable to avoid a deer as it jumped out across the vehicle’s path.

“Luckily for the occupants it did not go through the windscreen and cause any injuries to the people involved.

“Anyone who knows the road will see the signs warning for deer in the area, and this accident happened in broad daylight so beware when passing through Sligo,” said Gardaí on their Facebook page.
