Fairgreen damaged

-

DAMAGE caused to the all weather multi use games area by vandals has led to the temporary closure of Sligo’s Fairgreen Recreational Park. Independent councillor Declan Bree described the damage as an act of wanton vandalism.

“It is difficult to comprehend why anyone would engage in such an act given the fact that the park has proved so popular with local people.

“This first phase of the Fairgreen development was opened only two years ago and included the provision of an all weather Multi-Use Games Area suitable for both soccer and basketball.

The Council will shortly be submitting an application to the Department for grant aid for the second phase of the development. It is unfortunate that due to the actions of a small minority so many people’s enjoyment of the park has to suffer.

Cllr Bree has requested the Council to consider installing security cameras. “We cannot allow such acts of mindless vandalism in our community and I would be hopeful that the installation of CCTV will prevent the park being targeted in future.”

Cllr Bree has also appealed to anyone who might have noticed any suspicious activity in or near the park to contact the gardaí.
