Irish Water won’t take estate’s treatment plant in charge

-

A housing estate in Ballincar will not be taken in charge by the County Council as issues have arisen over a wastewater treatment plant.

The meeting was told that works were carried on the estate in 2017 under the National Taking in Charge Initiative to bring the roads, footpaths and public lighting up to standard for taking in charge.

Councillor Seamus Kilgannon was informed in a report from Director of Services, Dorothy Clarke that the estate is serviced by a developer provided wasterwater treatment plant which Irish Water will not take in charge under their current Taking In Charge protocol agreement.

Irish Water has also advised that because they won’t take the wastewater treatment plant in charge they won’t take the water mains in charge either.

“We will continue to liaise with Irish Water in relation to this estate. We understand that Irish Water may review its Taking In Charge protocol later this year, particularly with regard to estates that are reliant on developer provided infrastructure such as on-site waste water treatment plants,” said Ms Clarke.
