No more traffic lights planned for Pearse Rd

-

TRAFFIC lights were not considered as being required for the junction of Cleveragh Road and Pearse Road, the meeting was told.

In a report to Councillor Chris MacManus, Senior Executive Engineer, Brian Flynn said the junction was assessed towards the end of 2016 and it was considered then that it was functioning adequately.

Build-up of traffic was infrequent and time delays exiting from Cleveragh Road were minimal in duration.

“It is not considered that traffic signals are required at this junction based on current traffic volume and junction movements. This junction will be kept under review,” said Mr Flynn.

Cllr MacManus had also queried the timing of the lights at the Pilkington Terrace/Pearse Road junction but was informed the council had not been made aware of any issues with the timing .

“Nevertheless, the timings will be reviewed by the council’s traffic signals maintenance contractor,” said Mr Flynn.

Cllr Tom MacSharry said the previous review in 2016 at the Cleveragh Road junction was done on foot of a motion he had put down previously.

“It’s still a big problem. It’s certainly not getting any better,” he said.
