SINGER WINS A NATIONAL TEEN STAR CONTEST

A strandhill teenager is a step closer to achieving her dreams of becoming a star after scooping two top awards in a national singing competitio­n.

Kerry-Ann McCreery who has just turned 13 says she is thrilled to have got to the final of the Teenstars competitio­n.

The event was held recently at a Dublin auditorium in front of a thousand people.

A first year student in the Mercy College Kerry-Ann won a second and third place trophy for her vocal talents.

No stranger to the stage, at the tender age of 10 she played the lead role of Annie at the Hawk’s Well Theatre in Sligo.

Since January 2017 the talented teen has been attending private vocal tuition with Jonathan Carter at the Sligo Academy of Music.

Tutor Jonathan says: “Kerry-Ann was born on the stage. We are extremely proud of her for getting two trophies in the Junior Grand Final TeenStars Competitio­n.

“The competitio­n was held last Saturday June 16 th. The Eurovision Junior Scouts from TG4 and TV3 were present at the event and will be contacting some of the children in the coming weeks.

“Kerry-Ann has been competing against hundreds of children aged between 9 years and 14 years over the past few months. Kerry Ann sang the song’ This is a mans world ‘ by James Brown and blew the house down with her performanc­e.” Kerry-Ann already has her sights set on the Voice Kids UK 2019 series and will be auditionin­g for the programme next Month.

Her immensely proud parents say they are extremely grateful to TeenStars directors Patrick and Paula Twomey and the judging team for believing in Kerry-Ann. They’ve also a special word of thanks to her incredible coach Jonathan Carter.
