OWENMORE GAELS

THE men’s team conquered Ballymote in the Division 3 League final in Cloonacool on Sunday. A great team performance saw the lads come out victorious on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-10. THIS win see the lads promoted to Division 2 for next year. A massive congratulations to all the lads involved and managers. Also a massive thank you to all the supporters that came to cheer the lads on.

THE Division 4 team faced two tough fixtures playing the two sides at the top of the table Coolaney/Mullinabreena and St. Molaise Gaels.

THE lads were very unfortunate in both games as they ran out narrow losers in both, with the two day turnaround playing its part in the second fixture and fatigue being evident with the lads. A good league campaign for the lads is now finished where they were competitive in most games and gives good promise to build for next year.

THE Minor Boys got their B championship campaign off to a good start as they ran out 5-12 to 3-11 winners over Tubbercurry/Cloonacool on Thursday evening last. A good performance from the lads sets them up nicely for their next game where they travel to Coolera/Strandhill on Thursday evening.

THE U16 lads also got their championship campaign off to a good start as they ran out 9-11 to 2-8 winners over Coolaney Mullinabreena in Connolly Park last Monday evening.

A good performance from the lads sets them up for the journey west as they face St Farnans/St Patricks on Monday evening in St Farnans.

THE U12 Division One team lost out narrowly to Ballymote in their division one playoff on Thursday evening last.

HARD luck boys. The U11’s face Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in their semi-final on Tuesday evening. THE Minor girls were unlucky in their efforts against St Mary’s in their championship opener during the week.

A good performance from the girls was in vain as St Mary’s got the better of them.

HARD luck to the u12 girls who ran out a narrow loss to Shamrock Gaels on Friday evening last. A battling effort was in vain but the effort from the girls was immense and the improvement from the girls can only mean a championship win is only around the corner for them.

Farnan’s/ St. Pat’s were defeated in the first round of the B championship by Coolaney/ Mullinabreena on Thursday in what was a terrific game of football which finished Coolaney/ Mullinabreena 1-22, St. Farnan’s/ St. Pat’s 4-11.

ST. JOHN’S

ST Johns Under 8 and Under 10 Girls Blitz

ON Sat July 14 St Johns hosted a very successful blitz in Cleveragh in which five clubs competed at U8 and U10 levels namely St Nathys, St Molaise Gaels, Eastern Harps, Geevagh and St Johns. Despite the wet conditions, a very successful morning’s football took place in which top class football skills were on display along with some fantastic scores. Well done to all the players – you played great football.

A big thank you to the coaches for all their hard work and com- mitment namely Eimer Kelly, Peter Mc Hugh and Kiera Mc Allister for St Johns and to the coaches from the other four clubs for bringing your teams.

ALSO thanks to the parents for your attendance and support. Liam Kelly and Fergal Kelly set up the four pitches for the morning in conjunction with Keith Mc Loughlin who organised the event on behalf of Sligo LGFA Development.

EVERY girl left smiling with her party bag in hand, packed with goodies by the Mc Loughlin ladies, so thanks to Olivia, Saoirse and Faileen for that. FINALLY a big thanks to the three referees – Darragh Mc Goldrick, Conor Leonard and Faileen mc Loughlin without whose expert help the games could not have gone ahead – well done and keep up the great work. ST. MOLAISE GAELS

OUR senior men were beaten 1-16 to 1-13 by Tubbercurry in the final of the the Kiernan Cup in Bunninadden on Sunday last. Tubber lead by 0-09 to 0-07 at the interval.

GAELS were determined to make a good start to the second period but were rocked by a Tubbercurry goal within a minute of the restart. DESPITE a Darren Gilsenan penalty after fifty minutes Gaels ran out of time despite getting within three points of their opponents. There was much encouragement though for Gaels as they now focus on the senior championship clash with Coolera / Strandhill on April 4th. Jamie McLoughlin, Dean Carroll, Gerard Brady and Cathal Herron made huge contributions when coming into the game as substitutes highlighting the strength in depth in the Panel. NEXT Sunday July 29th our Development squad have an opportunity to pick up silverware as they take on St Farnan’s in the Division IV League final at 1.00pm with the venue yet to be confirmed.
