SLIGO KERRY 0-08 4-26

The under 21 hurling semi final took place in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe. Sligo reached the last four following a good win over Donegal on Tuesday last in the quarter final.

It was a perfect day for the match with a slight breeze which favoured Sligo in the first half. Kerry were first to score with two points before Kevin Banks responded for Sligo.

Sligo remained in contention for the first twenty minutes of the game with the score Kerry 0-8, Sligo 0-4.

The gulf in class between the sides began to show as Kerry scored points at will and with two goals added five minutes before the break there was only going to be one winner. The score at half time was Sligo 0-4, Kerry 2-13.

Kerry were rampant in the early stages of the second half and increased their lead by 3-21 before Sligo got their first score of the second half from a free by Joe Mc Hugh. Kerry continued to attack and ran out easy winners.

Sligo, to their credit battled hard but found themselves with an uphill battle against a side which boasted a number of senior county hurlers for Kerry. Sligo are a young team and the majority are eligible at this grade for next year.
