THANK YOU FROM THE SLIGO CAMINO

Coolaney Development Company would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all who contributed to the magnificent Sligo Camino walk on Saturday, July 7.

They are very grateful to Sligo Leader and Sligo Local Community Development Committee for their support which has allowed the event to grow and expand with commemorative T-shirts and new signage this year. Thanks to the local sponsors for their generous contributions. Without these local businesses who get behind the Sligo Camino each year, the event could not take place and they certainly deserve the custom of people in the Sligo area.

Particular thanks go to the 100 volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly and that walkers were well looked after. The Coolaney branch of the ICA, the Rathbarron Ladies, the Coolaney Women’s Group and Coolaney Macra na Feirme all took responsibility for important roles and performed excellently. Along with dozens of individual volunteers they worked to register walkers, manage car parking and traffic flow, lead groups of walkers, marshal the road crossings, record the event on social media, operate food and water stations and provide top quality catering for hundreds of weary walkers in our Sligo Camino marquee. This community spirit and selfless teamwork is what makes the Sligo Camino such a success and each volunteer is greatly appreciated.

Final thanks go to the members of An Garda Síochána, Sligo Order of Malta and Dr Ann Murray, who were on duty all day and offered their expertise to ensure walkers were safe and well cared for on the big day.

The Sligo Camino is entirely run by volunteers and all proceeds from it go towards community projects in the Coolaney area including the community café, Café Fia.
