ICONIC band The Boomtown Rats has just been announced for Sligo Live 2018.

Festival organiser Rory O’Connor is delighted to reveal that Bob Geldof and the boys will headline the Festival on Friday night, 26 th October at Knocknarea Arena in IT Sligo.

Formed in Dublin, The Boomtown Rats exploded out of Ireland in 1976.

As the first Irish band to have a UK No. 1 hit with ‘Rat Trap’, the Boomtown Rats made history and went on to top the charts in 32 countries with ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’.

The rock band also racked up six era-defining albums and became arguably one of the biggest bands of the late 1970’s into the 1980’s with a string of top-ten hits and platinum albums.

Rory says: “The Boomtown rats will join the line-up announced so far including Dara Ó Briain, The Bootleg Beatles and Síomha and Saint Sister and Hudson Taylor.

“We are thrilled with the line-up so far. It promises to be a bumper bank holiday weekend of top quality music.”

The festival is a major boost to the local economy and attracts people from near and far.

As Rory says: “We offer a great way for festival goers to experience live music throughout the day and night in intimate venues around Sligo over 6 days spanning the Bank Holiday Weekend.

“This year we have a few new additions to the festival including the dynamic Sligo Sessions, the arrivals emerging artists’ strand, unique Festival Club, Food Trail, and Festival Fringe. There really is something to suit everyone.”

He adds: “Don’t forget Festival goers will have the opportunity to enjoy many of Sligo’s year round activities such as hill and forest walks, seaweed baths, boating, fishing, surfing, camping and golf.

“Sligo is a hotbed of music and culture all year round; home to a large community of musicians, writers and artists who enrich the life of the area.

“This is the spiritual home of Nobel Prizewinning poet, William Butler Yeats and his artist brother Jack who both freely acknowledged Sligo’s profound inspiration in their work, which lives on in its lyrical surroundings.”

“For locals and visitors alike Sligo Live is the ideal chance to enjoy everything that this great county has to offer,” Rory concludes.
