- By JENNY MCCUDDEN

THE Criminal Assets Bureau has seized a Ford Mondeo, documents and mobile phones following the search of a premises in Sligo town.

Officers conducted a search at a residential premises in the town on Thursday morning last.

Revenue and the Department of Employments Affairs and Social Protection were also involved in the operation.

Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken of Sligo Garda Station, confirmed that no arrests were made and investigations are ongoing.

He told the Sligo Champion last Thursday: “This is a live investigation. The person was identified using asset profiling locally.

“We have a number of asset profilers within our division. These officers from time to time would have targets whom they profile.

“We work in conjunction with the Criminal Assets Bureau.

“This work has led to some search warrants today (Thursday) and a 2017 registered black Ford mondeo car was seized as a result.”

Supt Glacken explains that these asset profilers ‘follow the money.’

“If we suspect that people have assets if they have no visible means of income we may need to engage our asset profilers,” he says.

“We continue to monitor criminal activity and part of doing that is profiling people who may have assets and are displaying wealth that comes from unexplained means,” he adds.
