Man who has ‘ran out of road’ is sent to jail
A man arrested following a disturbance in a housing estate was jailed for two months by Judge Kevin Kilrane at Sligo District Court last Thursday.
Inspector Donal Sweeney said Gardaí got a number of calls on July 26 th about a disturbance at Racecourse View and when they arrived they found Dean Mahon of McNeill Drive very intoxicated in a an alleyway. He was arrested and while being brought to Ballymote Garda Station he was verbally abusive to Gardaí and he repeatedly kicked the cell door in the van. The defendant had 26 previous convictions.
Mahon said he couldn’t remember much of the incident but that he had been assaulted. He would leave the area because he was sleeping and became more angry because he was arrested.
Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the defendant had been doing well.
Mahon said he had been off his medication for about two weeks. He did not need to go to a detox centre.
Judge Kilrane told the defendant: “Sorry, you’ve run out of road.” Mahon was jailed for two months for engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
