‘There will be a dividing wall’
SLIGO County Council CEO Ciaran Hayes has confirmed that the proposed works at Glenview Halting site to house travellers will include a wall to separate any families who are housed there.
“There will be a wall doing down through the site which will separate the Wards from other families,” he told The Sligo Champion.
The Mc Ginley family despite conflicting reports say they won’t move to this site at Glenview.
And the Wards who are already housed at the halting site say they will leave if the McGinely’s move in.
Responding to the news Ciaran Hayes said there is a role for the Traveller Support Group to step in and try to resolve the issues between both parties: “Essentially we are talking about difficulties between both families who could benefit from a mediation process.”
He said any comments from the McGinleys about leaving Connaughton Road are welcome.
As for the works at Glenview, he said the tendering process will take place in the coming weeks with contracts awarded and construction beginning on site in October this year.
“The halting site at Glenview is in need of refurbishment and planning has been granted to enhance and renovate six bays at the site and built a number of separate units. We have been engaging with all traveller families about their housing needs and our intention is to meet their accommodation needs,” he said.
