Motorcyclist (26) went into a ‘sheer panic’

-

A motorcyclist has been put off the road for two years for leading Gardaí on a high speed chase through south Sligo this time last year.

Daniel Phelan (26) of Tower Cresent, Connolly Park, Tubbercurry pleaded guilty before Judge Kilrane at Tubbercurry District Court to dangerous driving at Do- omore and Carraun in Tubbercurry and to driving without a licence or insurance at Ballyglass, Cloonacool on 3rd August 2017.

The court heard Phelan “took off at speed along narrow back roads”, went through a crossroads at 120kph without slowing down, passing a lady out walking and forcing another car to pull in before he eventually fell off his bike.

Defence solicitor Laura Spellman told Judge Kilrane that Phelan was “struck with sheer panic” when he saw the Garda car. Judge Kilrane struck out the Carraun charge but fined him ¤250 for dangerous driving at Doomore, ¤250 for no insurance and disqualified him for two years.
