McDonalds aiming to extend premises

- By SORCHA CROWLEY

THE signature golden arches of McDonalds may be seen from all directions in a new extension planned for their Carraroe premises.

The fast-food chain has lodged a planning application with Sligo County Council to redevelop their existing drivethru and restaurant.

It will involve three new golden arch McDonald signs north, south and west, a new extension to the main public entrance on the south side with new extended roof canopy to match what’s already there.

They’re doing away with the current outdoor play area and are planning to replace it with a new outdoor seating area at the front entrance.

Alterations will be made to the existing drive thru lane to create side by side ordering points - which will mean an additional lane, order point and sign.

The lanes will merge again at the newly extended collection point.

Their existing sky sign will be relocated and a new kerb and block paving laid along with large canopy.

The existing collection booth will also be extended by 5.5sqm.

The planning application was lodged by architects Arthur Gibney and Partners on behalf of McDonalds Restaurant of Ireland Ltd on 16 th July.

The land is owned by umbrella fund Targeted Investment Opportunities (TIO) based in the IFSC in Dublin’s North Wall Quay.

The fund included written consent in the planning application to McDonalds for the 60sq.m (650sq.ft) extension at Sligo Retail Park “on condition that the extension corresponds with the location and position within the attached floorplan.”

County Planners are due to decide on the application by the 9 th September 2018.

Members of the public have until 19 th August to make any submissions on the planning application.
