Man sent for trial on jewellery theft charge

A 28 year old man has been sent forward for trail to the Circuit Court on a charge of stealing two bracelets.

Robert Dumitru of Cosby Avenue, Fairgreen, Portlaoise had been charged with stealing two gold men’s bracelets value at €1,875 and €1,375 on May 3rd 2017 from H. Samuel jewellery shop on O’Connell Street.

At Sligo District Court last Thursday, Inspector Donal Sweeney was granted amendments to the charges removing H. Samuel and replacing Aisling Langan as the owner of the property and also removing the monetary value of the bracelets.

The book of evidence in the case was served by Garda Sandra Deery. The defendant’s solicitor, Mr Gerard McGovern told a previous sitting of the court the defendant wished to enter a guilty plea but Judge Kevin Kilrane declined jurisdicti­on in the case.

Dumitru was sent forward for trial to the next sittings of the Circuit Court in Sligo commencing on November 6 th.

An applicatio­n for bail was made by Mr McGovern and the defendant was released on his own surety of €300.
