Riverstown’s Morrison Festival is back

THE 26 th Annual James Morrison Traditiona­l Music Festival will run from Friday, August 3rd, to Monday, August 6 th in Riverstown Co. Sligo.

The Festival commemorat­es the musical genius of Sligo’s James Morrison and his contempora­ries. On Friday evening the festival will be officially opened by Vince Jordan, Uachtarán CCE , in The Morrison Teach Ceoil at 7.30 p.m. The Official Opening will be followed by the James Morrison Commemorat­ive Concert in the Community Hall.

The Morrison Concert, an Allstar Celebrity event, will be recorded for broadcast on Radio na Gaeltachta and Shannonsid­e Radio. On Saturday, Chris Thompson will conduct a Kids workshop entitled ‘Musical Tales’ in The Morrison Teach Ceoil from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Pre-booking recommende­d, contact Louise at 086 391 6761 to ensure a place.

At 1 p.m.The John Callaghan Memorial Sean-nós Dancing Competitio­n takes place in Riverstown Community Hall. At 6 p.m. there will be a musical tribute at the James Morrison Memorial in Drumfin followed by commemorat­ive address given by Gavin Collis at 8 p.m. in the Teach Ceoil. A Singing Session led by Caitríona Ní Cheannabhá­in will take place in The Corner House Pub at 7.30 p.m., followed by a Céili on the Diamond, at 10 p.m. with music by Marshy Ridge Céilí Band;
