ST. Mary’s launched an innovative ‘24Hour Relay Run’ fundraiser recently. The event aims to get all the community within the club’s catchment area involved in a fun and healthy physical activity. Participants of all levels are welcome, as you can either run, jog or walk their 2 x 1-hour legs of the 24hour event, which will be based in Mitchell Curley Park. The event will start at 7pm on Friday, September 14th and will continue through the night. It will finish at 7pm on Saturday, September 15th. Niall Murray, St. Mary’s Bord na nÓg chairperson said: “This is a great opportunity for all members of our community, both young and old, to participate in a fun team-based activity. “The event has two main aims, one being to promote health and wellbeing in our community and to act as a fundraiser for our underage teams.” Special Guests Dermot McDermott from Sligo AC and Mayor of Sligo Municipal District Cllr Rosaleen O’Grady attended on the night. Dermot emphasised the health benefits of athletic activity while Rosaleen stressed the impor- tance of Community and volunteerism to St. Mary’s and Sligo as a whole. In preparation for the event, St. Mary’s are providing free fitness classes for all participants in Mitchell Curley Park, at 6.45pm on Thursday evenings and 11am Sunday mornings. All members of the community are invited, especially those who are not involved in the club but have an interest in fitness or improving their health.
